Sustainability in the Early Years

Introduction

We are delighted to launch our new CACHE Accredited Level 4 qualification ‘Sustainability in the Early Years’. The qualification is a first for Early Years and was developed by LEYF’s CEO, June O’Sullivan and Sustainability Lead, Nick Corlett.

The course will run over 12 weeks, with sessions on Fridays from 9am to 1pm every 2 weeks (6 sessions each lasting 4 hours).

Course Outline

Outcome 1

Build a holistic sustainability approach through the pedagogy, policies and provision of the setting.

Outcome 2

Understand how sustainable practice can impact the Early Years sector.

Outcome 3

Be able to identify how you can apply the principles of reuse, recycle and repair.

Outcome 4

Develop routine procedures for sustainability in early years practice with particular reference to how we can decrease food wastage and consumption of materials and resources.

Outcome 5

Be able to teach respect and responsibility in relation to sustainability.

Outcome 6

Develop a reflective approach towards placing sustainability at the heart of policy and practice.
