Teaching children how to reduce stress in a healthy way is an important life skill that will help them throughout their childhoods and into adulthood.

Yoga is enjoyed by many of our children. It is a great way for children to relax and unwind. There are a huge number of physical and emotional benefits of yoga for children.

Yoga is both a positive physical experience and an activity to promote mindfulness. It is something that the whole family can try together at home. It is the perfect opportunity to switch off, meditate and focus on your breathing.

The physical side of yoga can help improve flexibility, coordination and fitness. Yoga can also help improve children’s mental well-being by supporting them to relax, feel calm and reduce any anxieties. Practised regularly, yoga will help improve sleep and concentration and increase confidence and self-esteem.

Yoga doesn’t have to be difficult. In this video, Andrea, a LEYF teacher, explores several simple dinosaur yoga poses for children and families to try at home. Children should feel a sense of achievement when they manage the poses.

The yoga poses allow children learn to be in the present moment, while relaxing and gaining a peaceful state of mind.
