Care to Learn

If you are studying and aged under 20 at the start of your course, Care to Learn can help pay for your childcare costs while you’re learning. Care to Learn is only available for courses in England that have some public funding (including schools, school sixth forms and sixth form colleges).

Visit www.gov.uk/care-to-learn or call the helpline on 0800 121 8989 for an application form and guidance notes.

You must apply before you start your course, or within 28 days of starting, to get funding from your start date. If you don’t apply until later, the funding will start from when your application is received.

Learner Support

This is a scheme for learners aged 19 or over, on a further education course and facing financial hardship.

Limited funds are available from colleges to assist with childcare costs. The scheme expects that the student will make some financial contribution towards their own childcare.

Speak to your training provider for more information or visit www.gov.uk/learner-support.

NHS Student Bursaries

Some learners who get the NHS Student Bursary are eligible for the scheme’s Childcare Allowance.

For more information, visit www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/nhs-bursary-students/childcare-allowance-cca.

Student Finance England

Some learners on student finance will be eligible for the scheme’s Childcare Grant. This does not have to be paid back and can cover up to 85% of your childcare costs.

For more information, visit www.gov.uk/childcare-grant.
