Our Nursery Chefs are dedicated to providing nutritionally balanced meals for children and are integral to the nursery team.
As a LEYF Nursery Chef, you are responsible for running the kitchen, preparing tasty and nutritious meals for children and staff, as well as helping to educate children, parents and staff on healthy eating.
Nursery Chefs actively participate in LEYF’s pioneering Chef Academy – a CACHE Level 3 endorsed award. The course is free for LEYF chefs. Those who have completed their training become a LEYF Qualified Chef and receive a £1,000 increase in their salary (based on a 40-hour week and compared to an unqualified chef).
Food preparation and kitchen management: Planning and preparing nutritionally well-balanced meals for children at the nursery, always following the LEYF policies and procedures including ‘Healthy Eating’ and ‘Allergy’.
Training and development: Actively participating in LEYF’s pioneering Early Years Chef Academy, a CACHE Level 3 endorsed award. This course costs £1000 for externals but is free for LEYF chefs.
Promote healthy eating: Supporting the nursery’s approach to healthy eating, including running cooking and food-related activities with children, and supporting staff and parents around healthy child nutrition.

Safeguarding: Protecting and promoting the safeguarding and welfare of the children.
About the nursery
Rated Good by Ofsted, Fire Station Nursery and Pre-School provides Early Years education and care to children from birth to 5 years old.
We’re based inside The Old Fire Station in Stoke Newington, close to Rectory Road station. We have spaces dedicated to different age groups, including a cosy room for babies.
Our children enjoy science, dialogic reading, cooking, yoga, ‘feelings boxes’ and much more! They love to get outdoors too, visiting the local shops and exploring nearby Abney Park.
