Job Description

LEYF is passionate about making sure our children are as safe, fit, and healthy as possible. Critical to this is ensuring children eat delicious and nutritious food every day, and develop healthy eating habits for life. We know that the nursery chef is critical to this, so we invest heavily in our nursery chefs and they are integral to the nursery team.

Burgess Park Nursery operates during term time, this role will be 15 hours over 5 days, 39 weeks per year.

Job Requirements

  • Planning and preparing nutritionally well-balanced meals for children at the nursery, always following the LEYF policies and procedures including ‘Healthy Eating’ and ‘Allergy’.
  • Actively participating in LEYF’s pioneering Early Years Chef Academy, a CACHE Level 3 endorsed award. This course costs £1000 for externals but is free for LEYF chefs.
  • Supporting the nursery’s approach to healthy eating, including running cooking and food-related activities with children, and, after taking part in our Early Years Chef Academy, supporting staff and parents around healthy child nutrition.
  • Undertaking general housekeeping duties of the nursery and assisting in maintaining a hygienic, safe and healthy environment.
  • Contributing to the wider LEYF chef community by sharing ideas for menus, recipes, food-related activities with children.
  • Protecting and promoting the safeguarding and welfare of the children.
